Grow it later

Add a portal now,
a cube next year.

The hatch uses one end portal; the other ships capped. Take the cap off for the emergency exit, or for another cube. If you want both, add an extra portal in the plant ($3,500) on the long wall you will grow toward, and a CUBE or another CUBE 20 bolts on there when you are ready.

Without the exit, the hatch is the only way in and out. It is built as the emergency escape opening the residential code asks for below grade, with a fixed ladder, lift assist and an inside release. Something on the ground above the hatch can block it, so if anyone will sleep in the Starter, we recommend the exit. Your county building official has the final say.
